Dave
died August 17, 2017 here at my home in New Mexico. He will be buried
at the Santa Fe National Cemetery on Sept. 8. He was diagnosed with
esophageal cancer at the VA Hospital in July of 2016. It was Stage IV.
He had chemo here in NM for a year, but the cancer went to his brain
and he was put in hospice here at my home. While in hospice he went to
the Central States conference in Albuquerque. He was passionate about
radio and loved interacting with all of you. You were his tribe.
His sense of humor and courage never left him.

On a personal note,I first met Dave in 1998 at the Central States VHF Society conference in Kansas City, MO. Smitty, W0DQY introduced me to him because I was in the market for a used all-mode 2 meter rig and Dave was selling his Yaesu FT-726R. I still have that rig. Dave was my VHF mentor and I was in awe of his operating skill. We went on many CSVHFS adventures together. We all knew Dave and enjoyed his contagious laugh and assistance throughout the years.
