SLAMS Breakfast on Sunday, October 10, 2019

We have met at Denny's to have breakfast and some talk once again. There was one major topic discussed at today's meeting - optical communications. Several approached were discussed. Harry WA0CNS demonstrated his test setup in the parking lot:

Sam W0PCE told the group about his setup to test receivers. Herbert AF4JF told the group that SLAMS actually pursued the idea of optical communications ten years ago, see the laser setup here and here. Mike N0OBI demonstrated his infrared detector ... optical communications definitely seem to be the topic of our future meetings.

December 2015 SLAMS Breakfast

Sunday, 6 December, my alarm clock chirping away, urging me to get up and make myself ready for the one-hundred and four mile trek from Girard, IL to Maryland Heights, MO to say, "Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to some of my dearest ham radio friends while at breakfast.  Unfortunately, not all of us were there, and you were missed, but we are all looking forward to more ham radio, microwave adventures with the coming New Year!

November Slams Breakfast

I am in total admiration with SLAMS.  It would be hard to find a more caring, dedicated, fun-loving group of hams.  Our organization prides itself on being loosely structured and welcoming of all.  I appreciate that the group makes it a point to have our monthly breakfasts in Illinois a few times a year so the ops out here don't have so far to drive.  Here's a photo of our breakfast held on Sunday, November 1.  We made it in spite of the time change to standard time!

November SLAMS meeting in Troy, IL

It was good seeing most of the SLAMS members at our monthly meeting.  This month it was held at the TA Truck Stop in Troy, IL just off of I-55.  We chatted about inexpensive modules to get on 10 GHz, 24 GHz activity and our plans to activate the grid corner of EM49, EM59, EN40 and EN50 this upcoming Saturday, November 8 at 8:00 am.  Zack, W9SZ drove down from Champaign, IL to my Girard, IL QTH and we carpooled the rest of the way to Troy.  Good company and good food!

 

SLAMS Meeting Today

We have had another nice SLAMS breakfast at the TA restaurant near Troy, IL today (March 9). Total of 10 HAMs attended the breakfast. We have met another local HAM who was dining at the restaurant by coincidence. The place (at the local BP gas station) certainly is suitable for this kind of activity. Breakfast buffet with good selection or menu for these who prefer that. We will return to this location on June 1st.

Next SLAMS breakfast will take place at DENNY's on Dorsett, April 6 at 8:00 am as planned.

Next SLAMS Breakfast - decision

Based on your feedback and weather forecast, we will postpone our next SLAMS breakfast. We will meet next Sunday 3/9 at 8:00am at the BP gas station in Troy, IL / Travel America (TA) center. No meeting this coming weekend.

I will bring my 10GHz station to that meeting.

Next SLAMS Breakfast

Everybody,

Weather forecast for this Sunday 3/2 is extremely bad. Even if it doesn't come to freezing sleet and snowy roads, we won't be able to have any activity outdoors after the breakfast. I would say that we should move it to next Sunday 3/9 and meet at 8:00am at the BP gas station in Troy, IL / Travel America (TA) center.

Next SLAMS Breakfast Meeting

Due to extreme weather conditions in the St. Louis area today, we are moving the SLAMS Breakfast to next Sunday, January 12. We will meet at 8:00am. The usual place - Denny's on Dorsett Rd., just off I-270.

Next SLAMS breakfast meeting

Next SLAMS breakfast will be held in Illinois at the "TA" truck stop in Troy, just across the interstate from the Cracker Barrel. There is a "fast food" establishment that serves "all you can eat breakfast buffet". We will have a breakfast there followed by a little demonstration/testing of our 10GHz stations. This serves two purposes - to show the local guys how we do 10GHz and to test that location in EM58.

More info will be published here before the next breakfast meeting, which is scheduled for Sunday October 6th.

SLAMS Breakfast Meeting in July

Next SLAMS "breakfast meeting" will be downgraded to a "meeting" in O'Fallon. We will meet on Sunday 08/12/2012 at 9:00am at the local hamfest in O'Fallon (click at the link below):

The reason why SLAMS will not meet on the usual first Sunday of the month is the "ARRL UHF Contest" (details here). We agreed not to have SLAMS breakfasts at days of major VHF+ contests long time ago.

SLAMS JUNE BREAKFAST

It was good seeing everyone in attendance at the SLAMS breakfast at Denny's on Dorsett and I-270.  Topics included yesterday's microwave activity, antennas, the Yemen 7O6T DXpedition and the upcoming Central States VHF Society Conference in Cedar Rapids, IA in July
